Scripture Reading: 2 Timothy 4:1-8
Consider this: I read a very encouraging devotion from “Our Daily Bread” this morning and I wanted to share some of the thoughts I gained from the writer, Remi Oyedele. Ms. Oyedele cited the scripture given above, 2 Timothy 4:8, “Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day--- and not only me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.” The writer was reflecting on the life of the Dr. Martin Luther King and she quoted some of his last words he spoke on April 3, 1968. Dr. King said, “We’ve got some difficult days ahead. But it doesn’t matter with me now. Because I’ve been to the mountaintop. And I’ve looked over. And I’ve seen the promised land.” The next day, Dr. King was assassinated.
Perhaps Dr. King realized his time on earth was nearly over. But he maintained his faith in his Lord and Savior. His confidence was in his Maker, and his confidence was strong and sure. He faithfully demonstrated his hope for positive change in our culture was possible and he bravely helped lead the way to change.
Today, as we face the challenge of this healthcare crisis in our country, you and I can still be an example of what it is like to maintain our faith in our God and point others to God’s sovereignty over all circumstances.
One footnote in my “Life Application Study Bible” said this, “As believers, our true reward is God’s presence and power through the Holy Spirit. Later, in eternity, we will be rewarded for our faith and service.” May you and I be faithful and continue to look for ways to serve God even in the midst of the chaos of our little world. God is with us today and in all our tomorrows, take comfort and hope in that truth.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, we praise You because You are sovereign, in that we can be sure. Thank You for your presence with us this day. Amen.
